Ephesians 2:8-9 "for by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is a gift of God; not as a result so that no one should boast" (id memorize it in NIV tho so its more understandable) this is a verse i would use in a situation where a person thinks their a good person. the verse is pretty self explanitory. thats the 1st verse id memorize.
I really loved the "eye" explanation in "defend." I always wondered how eyes were possible from evolution. It described how our eyes are one of the biggest evidence of a God creating us. That 127 million cones have to come together in our eyes for it to send images to our brain and how every cone needs to function for this to work, contradicting to the process of evolution (which consists of every part already being there slowly developes over time) is fundementally impossible. People now of days demand physical evidence of a God. I find this one a great stradegy to use in a conversation.
I remember being at Flashpoint night one time and Big Dave explained the "uncaused cause" argument (the Cosmological Argument). Every effect needs a cause.. So what is the universe's cause? Thomas Aquinas said things can't put themselves in motion because they must be caused to move. So there's an "Unmoved mover" which is God the "uncaused cause."
The eye is also another a great explanation. Something so complex can't just be formed from a few molecules flying into the planet. No other planet so far has life!
I have memorized most of the verses on the page and will continue refreshing them in my mind to make sure I can use them off the top of my head during a street witnessing.
John 7:5 "For even His own brothers did not believe in Him" i would use this verse to explain to someone that not everybody is going to accept the Lord, but we are witnessing to give the gospel to those who are chosen to be accepted by Jesus Christ. -Teia
What really spoked to me was when I started to read 7.3 in the ch. Defend. It talked about how to share Christianity, like people might ask "Why Christianity? What's so great about this religion?" To answer this question, I put a lot of thought into the two questions and God some pretty good answers; for instance, for the 1st question: "Why Christianity?" Christianity from what I've been learning at church, is all about Jesus/God. God sent his son to die for us, for all our sins, I mean God loves us all! Even if there are a lot of us. I mean he sent his son to die for all our sins, there's no other religion that has that kind of a story. Christianity gets down the facts and has great explanation, even in the bible if you just read it, you won't get it the first time, but if you ask your pastor or your friends or get it maybe the 1st, 2nd, 3rd time, then you'll be able to follow the Bible and what God has to say.
Like just last week, Olivia was talking to me about God, and she said that there are about 60 billion people on this planet, which means there are 60 billion souls, now that's a lot. But somehow God keeps track of each and everyone us, and he has a plan for all of us. He is such a powerful God, because he hears and sees each one of us, 6 billion, that's a large number to keep track off. But that's how powerful our God is!!
For the second question: "What's so great about this religion?" if someone asked me this question, I would answer "Christianity is a religion where you don't just believe it but you have faith and an actually relationship with God, you don't have to go to church everyday or read the bible, just pray and keep having faith, for he will always be there. Sometimes you don't think he's there, but he is! You just gotta have faith, and start to believe, but it's your on choice if you want to or not." and then tell them about how my relationship with God has been. This is how I would do my witnessing, I will also look over the verses that are in the book, my favorite thou is: John 14:6 "Jesus said to him, 'I am the way and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through me." This verse could help me if the person wanted to repent from their sins and get saved! ;)
a verse that i think works is Romans 3:23 "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God". telling and showing this to someone will really explain to them that nobody is good and no one deserves to be with God. a good follow up verse to show how they can get to Heaven is Romans 10:9 "That if you confess with your mouth, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved".
In my opinion all of the arguments can be convincing depending on the person you are talking to, some people will not be convinced by the cosmological argument saying that god is not the "Unmoved mover" others will say the moral argument doesnt work because there are people whos morals are far different from ours. The belief in god could be argued as well by the thought that humans dont seek god they seek knowledge and explanation which is why we "made up" stories about god. The eye in my opinion is the most effective argument because it deals with science and numbers and facts. This argument should be used against most people because even if they dont believe in any form of god the argument has nearly nothing to do with religion except for the fact that god created the eye. Those arguments i like, using what the other person believes to contradict them or convince them. I would probably use The Eye argument but all arguments have their potential. -Lucas
I really like the argument that was entitled "The Stars Are Uncountable." If you know me you know that i really like the stars. Especially in the countryside. So this one really hits home for me because of that reason. In 2003 some Australian astronomers reasoned that the number of stars in the sky were estimated to be about 70 sextillion! Even though they estimated this number they admitted that they could be wrong and that there could easily be and infinte amount of stars in the sky. Even though science has tried endless times to trip up Christianity it fails in this scenario and proves the Bible to be correct. In Jeremiah 33:22 Jeremiah prophecied that the stars in the sky could not be counted. Like Mitchell I like your argument Pual, that you dont die for a lie and I will be using both a lot in my upcoming whitnessing arguments and discusions
so the verse that hit me the most was (revelation 3:20) and i was thinking about it and its the perfict verse to explane how jesus gets exepted in you cuz a lot of pepoll that i know that are a difrent religion sed that thay dont understand if u help your self or if he helps u. so it grate cuz it basicly sez that he is thar 4 u but u hafe 2 open the door 2 him in and then u r savde. -hunter ormeo
FINALLY, I'm done with the book, and this is the last assignment I have to do besides turning in the arc.
Okay to start things off, I've always been a really logical person, whether it comes to money management, organization, or just concepts in general. And before I started going to church, I was indirectly exposed to two different theories on how the Earth was created: The Big Bang, and the Christian God. I basically knew nothing about God except for the fact that he had no beginning or end, and that he was and always will be. It was hard for me to wrap my head around that but I just assumed that there was a logical explanation for why SO MANY PEOPLE have faith in this concept. On the other hand, people have studied and studied to only get the result of two particles in the universe colliding together to form the galaxy we currently reside in. This concept did not sit well with me considering the fact that I could only ask one thing, WHERE DID THAT STUFF COME FROM IN THE FIRST PLACE? As time went by and I kept coming back to church, I just accepted that there was something larger than myself that controlled everything around me. Paul's sermon over the summer hit me in a different spot than worship or regular sermons, that the Earth coming to be on it's own was completely and utterly impossible. Considering the 322 things necessary for human life and the probability of those being in one place is completely impossible by chance; specifically, less than 1 in a 10^282. Upon reading this book, I didn't know that the Bible explained the different scientific aspects on the Earth, such as not being able to count the stars, or how the currents in the Ocean work, or the roundness of the Earth, etc. This just solidifies the logical argument that the Bible and God are not refutable.
The arguement I liked the most was the moral one.We would never have a conscience if God didnt create it. God allows us to decide between right and wrong. "They show taht the work of the law is writtenon their hearts, while their conscience also bears witness, and their conflicting thoughts accus or even excuse them." Romans 2:15 -Zhane
The verse that stand out to me and I think that works is Roman 5:8-"But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners. Chirst died for us." I would use this verse when I witness to people becaue it explain and straight from the Bible what God have done for us, and Christ dieing for are sins. I use this verse to a person who says God or Christ have not done anything for us and for are sins.
I think Romans 3:23 would be a great verse to show someone that is not perfert only God is and we all fall short of his standard. I think it will open the eyes of this person and tell that Jesus did not have to die for us but he did because he loves us all so very much. -Kimaree
